Overspill:
Exploring Manchester's Slum Clearances.
Design + Art Direction

The Work.

The Overspill project explores the heritage of the original Manchester slum clearances and estate in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. A part of culture not widely known or discussed, this project dives deep into the stories of families who originally moved from other parts of Manchester to two areas in particular – Darnhill and Langley. Their stories are a mix of stories growing up on these estates, daily life, friendships, love and everything in between. It also touches on the social, cultural and economic issues at the time, that has affected the fabric of the community in these areas today. We were commissioned to design the printed project, as well as additional marketing and communication assets to help visiblity of the project in the region. Using a simple colour palette and bold, punchy capitals for some of the key stories. We also used a creative direction to celebrate the changes of these areas over the years, from what it was then to now. As an archive piece, as well as understanding the implications of city planning of we were pleased to be involved in the project.
